April 1 - 5

Powerpoints on Moodle

Monday, April 1
Objective: Give presentation over the musculoskeletal system.

Tuesday, April 2
Objective: Give presentation over the musculoskeletal system.

Wednesday, April 3
Objective: Describe the components and function of the nervous system.
Neurons and their structure (Section 9.1-9.4)
See Powerpoint above.

Thursday, April 4
Objective: Describe how a nerve impulse works.
Action potential, synapse, and impulse processing (Section 9.5-9.8)
See Powerpoint above.

Friday, April 5
Objective: Describe the nervous system and how it functions.
Questions over the nervous system.
1.       Distinguish between neurons and neuroglial cells.
2.       Explain how neurons can be classified on the basis of their structure and on the basis of their function.
3.       What is resting potential? How are ions distributed during this period?
4.       List the events during an action potential.
5.       Explain how nerve impulses are related to action potentials.
6.       Explain how impulses are conducted on unmyelinated and myelinated axons.
7.       Critical Thinking: Why is it important, in the production of an action potential, that the voltage-regulated Na+ and K+ gates open at different times? What might happen if they should both open at the same time?
